Moving cantons with a permit B, C or G
Permit C and EU/EFTA: simple registration
Permit C holders and EU/EFTA nationals with a permit B have the right to change canton: simply deregister with the old commune and register with the new one (within 14 days).
Third countries: prior authorisation
Third-country nationals with a permit B must request authorisation from the new canton BEFORE moving. The new canton can refuse, notably in case of unemployment or social assistance.
What about permit G?
Permit G is tied to the canton of work. If your new job is in another canton, a new cross-border permit must be requested there.
